The cheapest PIR boards from Poland. PIR boards AL, AGRO, ETICS, Fiberglass for insulating roofs, walls, floors, ceilings and foundations. The PIR insulation board (polyisocyanurate) is one of the most efficient insulations with a thermal conductivity λ of 0.022–0.023, which is about 50% better than mineral wool, EPS or XPS polystyrene or cellulose. PIR boards in 1st and 2nd grade are available from stock in: Warszawa – Serock, Błonie, Radom, Łódź, Olsztyn, Wrocław, Gorzów Wielkopolski. We offer PIR boards from Balex Thermano, Kingspan, Gor-Stal termPIR and Izoproof, Unilin, Recticel, Soprema, Idelco, Bauder and IKO. PIR boards are non-absorbent, have high compressive strength and are not attacked by rodents or insects.

What are PIR boards?

PIR boards are boards made of polyisocyanurate – they are among the most popular insulation materials used in construction. They offer a number of advantages that make them an attractive choice for many building projects, both in new builds and in the renovation of older structures.

PIR boards are thermal insulation boards made from polyisocyanurate (a thermoset foam formed by the reaction of polyol with isocyanate). The material is similar to polyurethane foams (PUR) but has better thermal stability and fire resistance due to chemical modification that leads to more stable bonds between the molecules.

Applications of PIR boards

PIR boards are used in many areas of construction:

  • Insulation of external and internal walls: They effectively keep heat inside the building, increasing its energy efficiency.
  • Roof and attic insulation: Thanks to their low weight, PIR boards are ideal for roof insulation without overloading the structure.
  • Floor insulation: They can also be used under floor screeds, both in residential and commercial buildings.
  • Cold-room insulation: Due to their insulation performance and resistance to low temperatures, PIR boards are often used in industrial construction.

Advantages of PIR boards

  • High insulation performance: PIR boards are among the insulation materials with the highest thermal performance, allowing better insulation with less thickness.
  • Fire resistance: They are difficult to ignite, which increases safety in use.
  • Moisture resistance: PIR boards are water-resistant, prevent mould and fungus formation and do not degrade due to moisture.
  • Low weight: They are relatively light, which facilitates transport and installation.
  • Durability: The material is resistant to many environmental factors, ensuring a long service life of the insulation.

Installation of PIR boards

The installation of PIR boards is relatively simple and can be carried out both by professionals and by competent DIYers. During installation, the following aspects should be taken into account:

  • Substrate preparation: The surface must be clean, dry and even.
  • Cutting to size: PIR boards can be easily cut to the required dimensions using a knife or saw.
  • Installation: Depending on the project, boards can be installed using adhesive, screws or special fixings.
  • Sealing: All joints and gaps should be carefully sealed to ensure maximum insulation efficiency.

PIR ETICS boards

ETICS systems: Thermano ETICS and termPIR ETX are modern facade insulation systems – with thermal performance about 50% better than EPS polystyrene or mineral wool.

  • Lower thermal conductivity – PIR boards have λ ≈ 0.022–0.027 W/m·K, while typical EPS has about 0.035–0.040 W/m·K and mineral wool about 0.035–0.045 W/m·K. This means that the same thermal effect can be achieved with a thinner layer of insulation.
  • Higher mechanical strength – termPIR ETX (σ₁₀ ≥ 120–150 kPa) and Thermano (σ₁₀ ≥ 200 kPa for PIR) are more resistant than standard polystyrene or mineral wool boards, which translates into a lower risk of deformation and loss of insulation performance.
  • Better durability and resistance – polyurethane is less prone to settlement, damage from rodents/insects and usually has a lower water absorption (less moisture = more stable parameters over the years). Both systems emphasise these properties.
  • termPIR ETX is a board faced with glass veil onto which mesh, adhesive and render are applied directly.
  • With Thermano ETICS there is an additional EPS layer, which facilitates the use of a standard facade system (as with polystyrene) that can be sanded, while still benefiting from PIR properties.

PIR AGRO boards – specification and applications

PIR Agro boards are a specialised type of PIR board designed for agricultural construction, such as cold stores, warehouses or livestock buildings. Here are some key features of these boards:

Applications

  • Agricultural buildings: PIR Agro boards are ideal for insulating buildings used in agriculture where good thermal insulation and moisture resistance are required.
  • Storage of agricultural products: They perform very well in warehouses and cold rooms for storing agricultural products, providing suitable temperature conditions and protection from external factors.

Features

  • Moisture resistance: PIR Agro boards have very good resistance to moisture, which is crucial under the conditions often present in agricultural buildings.
  • Fire performance: These boards are also difficult to ignite, which is an important safety factor in agricultural buildings where flammable materials may be stored.
  • High thermal insulation: PIR Agro boards have excellent insulation properties, helping to maintain a constant temperature in buildings and reduce heating or cooling costs.
  • Durability: The boards are resistant to various mechanical and biological impacts, which is important in agricultural environments.

Cost

The cost of PIR Agro boards may be slightly higher than that of standard PIR boards due to their specialised use and additional properties. Prices can vary depending on the manufacturer, thickness and other technical specifications.

PIR SIP boards – properties and installation

PIR SIP boards (Structural Insulated Panels) are a type of structural panel increasingly used in modern construction. SIP panels with a core made of polyisocyanurate (PIR) combine high thermal efficiency, durability and ease of installation, making them an ideal solution for fast and efficient construction.

Structure and properties

PIR SIP panels consist of an insulating core made of rigid PIR foam, which is faced on both sides with durable sheathing boards, such as OSB (Oriented Strand Board), plasterboard or other structural materials. The PIR foam core provides excellent thermal insulation and is highly resistant to moisture and fire.

Advantages of PIR SIP boards

  • High energy efficiency: Thanks to the PIR foam, SIP panels offer excellent insulation properties, which translates into lower heating and cooling costs.
  • Fast installation: The installation of SIP boards is much faster than traditional construction methods, shortening the construction time and reducing labour costs.
  • Structural strength: SIP panels are not only an insulator but also an important load-bearing element of the structure, increasing the stability and durability of the building.
  • Resistance to weather conditions: PIR boards are moisture-resistant and do not absorb water, which prevents mould and fungus growth and improves the overall resistance of the building to external factors.
  • Excellent sound insulation: SIP panels also offer very good acoustic insulation, which is beneficial in noisy environments or in residential buildings.
  • Minimal heat loss: The design of SIP boards reduces thermal bridges, further improving the building’s energy efficiency.

Applications

PIR SIP panels are used in various building types, from single-family houses and commercial buildings to industrial facilities. They are particularly recommended where construction speed and energy efficiency are crucial. They can be used both for new walls and for the renovation of existing structures.

Installation

The installation of SIP boards requires precision and an understanding of the construction method. The panels are installed on the foundations, and their joints must be carefully sealed and protected to ensure full tightness and insulation. It is recommended that installation be carried out by experienced contractors who are familiar with this type of material.

In summary, PIR SIP boards offer many advantages in modern construction, providing not only excellent insulation performance but also faster construction and durable structures.

What is the difference between PUR and PIR boards?

PUR boards (polyurethane) and PIR boards (polyisocyanurate) are two types of insulation materials with similar applications, but they differ mainly in chemical composition and properties, which affects their performance and use in construction.

Chemical composition

  • PUR (polyurethane): This material is produced by reacting polyol with isocyanate. The molecular structure of PUR is less regular, which affects its insulation and mechanical properties.
  • PIR (polyisocyanurate): PIR is an improved version of PUR in which the ratio of isocyanate to polyol is higher, leading to more cross-linked and stable chemical bonds. This change in structure makes PIR more resistant to fire and high temperatures.

Fire resistance

  • PUR: PUR boards are less fire-resistant than PIR. In the event of a fire, they can ignite and degrade more quickly.
  • PIR: PIR boards provide better fire resistance than PUR. They remain more stable at high temperatures and ignite more slowly.

Insulation properties

  • PUR: Both materials have good insulation properties, but PUR generally has a slightly lower thermal resistance than PIR.
  • PIR: PIR boards offer better thermal insulation per unit thickness than PUR, which means that a thinner board is needed to achieve similar insulation levels.

Durability and moisture resistance

  • PUR: PUR is moisture-resistant, but with prolonged exposure it can absorb water, which reduces its insulation performance.
  • PIR: PIR has even better moisture resistance than PUR and maintains its insulation performance more effectively in damp conditions.

Which is better – PIR or polystyrene (EPS)?

The choice between PIR boards (polyisocyanurate) and polystyrene (EPS) depends on several key factors, such as insulation requirements, budget, durability expectations and specific project needs.

Insulation properties

  • PIR: PIR boards have very high thermal insulation per unit thickness, which means they can provide better insulation with less thickness. This makes them ideal where space is limited.
  • Polystyrene (EPS): EPS also offers good insulation properties, but generally requires greater thickness to achieve insulation comparable to PIR.

Moisture resistance

  • PIR: PIR has very good moisture resistance and does not absorb water, so it retains its insulation performance even in damp environments.
  • Polystyrene (EPS): EPS is also moisture-resistant, although its cell structure can, under certain conditions, absorb more water than PIR.

Fire resistance

  • PIR: PIR boards are more difficult to ignite and provide better fire resistance than EPS, which is important where higher fire-safety standards are required.
  • Polystyrene (EPS): EPS is more susceptible to fire and at high temperatures can release toxic gases.

Cost

  • PIR: PIR is usually more expensive than EPS, which results from its better insulation performance and higher fire resistance.
  • Polystyrene (EPS): EPS is more cost-effective and often chosen for large insulation projects where budget is critical.

Durability and applications

  • PIR: PIR is known for its long-term stability and durability and is often chosen for projects requiring long-term performance.
  • Polystyrene (EPS): Also durable, but more susceptible to mechanical damage such as impact or high point loads.

The choice between PIR and EPS should be guided by the specific project requirements. PIR is the better option when higher thermal performance, reduced thickness, better fire resistance and higher moisture resistance are priorities. EPS can be more economical for large-scale projects where cost is a key factor and the highest fire resistance or top-end insulation performance are less critical.

How much does 1 m² of PIR board cost?

The prices of PIR boards can vary depending on several factors, such as board thickness, specific properties (e.g. fire performance, special facings) and supplier. Typically, prices range from about 9.41 to 23.53 € per square metre, but they can be higher for specialised products or boards with particularly high insulation values.
